ABOUT US

THE TEAM

We are a two-person team of game students at Kristiania University College in Oslo, Norway. The Road Ahead is our bachelor project, which we are developing during our final year of studies.

As a small team, we both take part in all aspects of developing The Road Ahead. We each take on more responsibility in the areas we are strongest in, but we always share ideas and make the final decisions together.

BEHIND THE PROJECT

The idea for The Road Ahead came from the different interests we each have within games. We already knew we wanted to create something together, and rather than choosing between our different interests, we wanted to find a way to combine them into one game.

The concept became a mix between our interest in cars and driving, and our interest in more narrative-driven experiences and more emotional storytelling. We wanted the car to be more than just a gameplay element, making it an important part of the story and a symbol of something deeper within it. Through restoring the car, the player follows Susie's journey as she slowly finds her independence and learns to move forward.

At first, we were unsure how well two ideas from such different sides of games would work together. Mixing a driving-focused game with something “deep and emotional” felt like a risk, but we hope that bringing them together can create something unique and meaningful.

OUR INSPIRATION

Different games have inspired different parts of The Road Ahead. My Summer Car and Firewatch have been important references for us, inspiring our ideas around car interaction, atmosphere and character-driven storytelling. We have also looked at narrative exploration games such as Dear Esther, Gone Home, and What Remains of Edith Finch , particularly for their different approaches to exploration and storytelling. These influences are helping us explore how puzzle-solving, exploration and environmental storytelling could come together in The Road Ahead.
